My name is Christine Soutter Suau. I am the mom of four boys. My youngest son, Devin, was diagnosed with a rare brain cancer called DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma) in 2017 at just 6 years old—he passed away 8 months and 3 weeks after his diagnosis. 1 week shy of 9 months…the same amount of time that I was pregnant with Devin was the time it took for him to slip away from us. A painful irony.
Without Devin, life is about putting one foot in front of the other and showing my other boys how to continue living. To live the life they were given, although it's not one any of us would have chosen. To live our very best lives, even if that feels broken at times, in a way that would make Devin proud.
For whatever the reason, this is the path we were meant to travel.
Losing a child is never meant to be, but I firmly believe that our experiences happen for a reason. We don’t get to choose the challenges we face in life, they choose us. Every event in our life, good or bad, is a small piece of a much larger puzzle.
Since Devin’s passing, I tell myself that Devin is still buzzing around in our lives, just in a different way – flying high over our family. The bee represents his love for us, and our love for him. His loss will always sting, but the memory of his love and smile will always be so sweet.
And that is Meant to Bee.
10% of the proceeds from all Meant to Bee sales will go directly to the WhyNotDevin Foundation to End DIPG. A foundation to help other families battling Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, a terminal pediatric brain cancer. There is no cure, it's not operable or treatable, and there is zero funding.
